A Romantic Hairstyle Idea, Courtesy of Scarlett Johansson

This hairstyle on Scarlett Johansson has got romance written all over it. And the thing that makes it so darn romantic is pretty copy-able. It’s a Valentine’s Day miracle!

So what makes it so soft and girlie? The fact that it’s loose and textured (meaning wavy) in the front. This keeps it from getting severe or too dressy, which keeps Scarlett looking approachable. A dude wouldn’t worry too much about messing up a hairstyle like this, you see. That’s why it’s a great choice for a date, really. Now the question is, once you’ve got your hair in waves, how do you get the ideal amount of looseness when you pull back your hair? You can go about this two ways:

1. You can pull back your hair, being careful not to tug on the top half, secure and then pull the front out with your fingers just slightly.

2. Keep the very front quarter of your hair out of the bun entirely. Then pull it back loosely and pin it back so it falls the way you want it to. But note: This option works best if your first layer of hair hits around chin-length or so.

Just remember if you’re going for the first method, don’t pull so hard that your hair comes out of the band and you have to start all over. Waves can be handled only so much before you ruin their shape. But even taking that into consideration, it’s a pretty easy look to pull off. And, hey, if this bun isn’t your speed, try following these steps to a lovely little side bun instead. Happy Valentine’s Day, loves! —Beth Shapouri
